Swim 01:50
Darkness told a lie Overcame my eyes Drank me into the maw of slumber Now if I find a light Will it be in time Or will the waves keep forcing me under? Tonight I'm swimming to the stars It's too high up, I'm too far gone And this is way too hard Tonight I'm swimming to the stars 'Cause in my dreams I can believe They're really not that far (Don't you want to feel a little more alive And live with open eyes?) Mortal, come choose life Call the dawn to end the night To shed new light on landscapes crumbling Show me your reality (If you can believe then you will find You're just in time) Yield up every doubt That holds you Sail the skies And breathe beyond the blue
2.
Don’t you know just what you’re made of? Child I see you there Regretting all you couldn’t be A fearful wonder when you wake up ‘Cause you were unaware That you have a destiny Nail the lid shut on your past The casket for your doubts Who you're meant to be is yours for finding out Don’t be satisfied with a compromise When you realize that you’re worth so much more Don’t be scared to try; raise your colours high If you don’t then I’m afraid you’ll never know You’re a child of eternity Seen by Divine eyes Bought by sacrifice And led into the light Nail your colours to the mast And let the whole world know You’re not scared to face the danger on your own Don’t be satisfied with a compromise When you realize that you’re worth so much more Don’t be scared to try, raise your colours high If you don’t then I’m afraid you’ll never know Someday you will wake, and you won’t run away Don’t be satisfied with a compromise When you realize that you’re worth so much more Don’t be scared to try, raise your colours high If you don’t then I’m afraid you’ll never know Don't you want to feel a little more alive And live with open eyes? (Show me your reality) If you can believe then you will find You're just in time Yield up every doubt That holds you Sail the skies And breathe beyond the blue Someday you will wake, and you won't run away

Show me my hubris and my abuses All my excuses become elusive Another broken vow today Another price I couldn’t pay Another nail in hands that save I let my promise break Oh, it’s burning in my mind How I can’t face all my mistakes or bring them to the light No, I’m running out of time And I can’t face my judgment day if I can’t make this right My failures looming; it's all consuming Always assuming my flaws have doomed me Another prayed I fail to pray Another sorry I can't say I am the blemish on my faith The servant of the snake Oh, it’s burning in my mind How I can’t face all my mistakes or bring them to the light No, I’m running out of time And I can’t face my judgment day if I can’t make this right It’s time to go; terror grips my throat Death calls, I know just why the bell tolls I stand alone at the judgment throne Guilt breaks these bones There’s no way that I could atone Oh, it’s burning in my mind How I can’t face all my mistakes or bring them to the light No, I’m running out of time And I can’t face my judgment day if I can’t make this right Oh, I can’t believe my eyes But I’ve seen grace replace mistakes with perfect sacrifice And though I fall a thousand times I will remain to rise again and stand to face the light

Love I need I give away Love in vain – the price I pay Love I need I give away I’ve trained my heart for this mistake In my disgrace I watched you fade away I watched you wave and then I forgot your face Bewildered minds Grasp at the wasted time Weary from wondering why I tried to make you mine Oh my soul How have you grown cold I siphoned passion from another day Another face Another one I almost chased Another one that got away I let you fade Love I need I give away Love in vain – the price I pay Love I need I give away I’ve trained my heart for this mistake Evermore becoming fake It’s a sin sick wish I make One of many hearts I’ll break I’ve trained my heart for this mistake Awake before it so desires My heart lights me with this dark fire I make believe sincerity I forced my heart to fall in love Before it was ready Love I need I give away Love in vain – the price I pay Love I need I give away I’ve trained my heart for this mistake Evermore becoming fake It’s a sin sick wish I make One of many hearts I’ll break I’ve trained my heart for this mistake Regret knows my name, Regret knows my face, My hand, Your heart torn through your ribcage And through skin I never meant for you to truly let me in

Today I watched a day go sailing by A look of longing in tomorrow’s eyes For yesterday I chased it desperately at anchor speed And let my rudder tangle in the weeds Then night fell on the sea And my ship sank The stars are swept out of their place While I just watch them flee It’s like the heavens rushing over me I’m gone, I’m gone I’m gonna find my way from this Undercurrent Time like a torrent starts to pour Faster than I can see I feel my shadows catching up to me I’m gone, I’m gone I’m gonna find my way from this Undercurrent Do you feel time pull like the undertow? The dread of everything that dwells below? It’s bottomless I see the lights from where I want to be I feel the gravity that still impedes But just you wait and see I’ll cut through it The stars are swept out of their place While I just watch them flee It’s like the heavens rushing over me I’m gone, I’m gone I’m gonna find my way from this Undercurrent Time like a torrent starts to pour Faster than I can see I feel my shadows catching up to me I’m gone, I’m gone I’m gonna find my way from this Undercurrent (Guitar solo - Maxwell Kozen) You took the anchor’s bait Clinging on to doubt’s dead weight You could have walked on waves The stars are swept out of their place While I just watch them flee It’s like the heavens rushing over me I’m gone, I’m gone I’m gonna find my way from this Undercurrent Time like a torrent starts to pour Faster than I can see I feel my shadows catching up to me I’m gone, I’m gone I’m gonna find my way from this Undercurrent

about

This EP has been a long term work in progress since before A Fearful Wonder was even released. We planned to follow up the main album with some acoustic remakes, but it ended up taking much longer than we initially planned.

In any case, "Undercurrent" is our way of re-packaging some of our high-energy songs in a way that exposes the more melodic, smooth "undercurrents" hiding beneath the otherwise more metallic surface. We've always presented ourselves as a "genre-bending" band, but we have tended to approach that by blending musical elements together at the same time, rather than hopping back and forth between styles sequentially. With this EP, we hope that stripping away the metal and hard rock layers can help people hear the Pop, R&B, and Folk/Singer-Songwriter roots that have always been inherent in our material. There are also two original pieces on this EP that have not been previously released: Swim and Looming Dawn, although the former has appeared in our live show as an intro to Shadow Ocean Stagnant.
